Donald Barthelme, inventer of the short-short story (called sometimes flash fiction), and New Yorker publishee, included this detail in one of his stories:

The Bronte sisters, Charlotte and Emily, firmly believed that all of their books
were inspired by a cat...Tabitha...

This author died on July 23, 1989.
