The Book, Cat, & Cat Book Lovers Almanac

of historical trivia regarding books, cats, and other animals. Actually this blog has evolved so that it is described better as a blog about cats in history and culture. And we take as a theme the advice of Aldous Huxley: If you want to be a writer, get some cats. Don't forget to see the archived articles linked at the bottom of the page.

March 18, 1928

Hans Küng, born on March 19, 1928,  is a Catholic priest. Born in Switzerland, he was associated with the University of Tubingen for many years. His theology has gotten him relieved of his sanction to teach Catholic theology, but he teaches on related issues. He is not just a priest, but has been consulted by people like his old friend, Benedict 16th.

His many books, include, What I Believe, (2010). We found there this quote.

[People may] fail to note all the things that happen in nature and what inestimable enrichment [this brings.] ...
There are theologians today who think that animals have virtually nothing to do with our faith...I love animals but -- for reasons of time and space -- will not allow myself any domestic animals apart from the occasional ants, wasps, and spiders....However I know a lot of people to whom a dog or cat gives joy despite the inconveniences....Why shouldn't people attribute personal properties to animals?...
[L]oyalty,...sympathy, joy, and suffering...are confirmed by more recent research.
