March 16, 1940

In Bertolucci's film 1900 (1976) there is the role of a a fascist, Attila Mellanchini. He is played by Donald Sutherland, who kills a cat, a black and white moggy. This happens off-screen, and according to the web site catsonfilm.wordpress.com, this event echoes a medieval Tuscan tradition. Bertolucci did not just direct the film 1900, he co-wrote it.

Bernardo Bertolucci born March 16, 1940,  is a highly regarded director.
