June 5, 1919
Richard Scarry (June 5, 1919 to April 30, 1994) was a successful author and illustrator of children's books. This Massachusetts native invented and inhabited Busytown, with many characters, all anthropomorphic animals. These included cats as characters, like Huckle Cat. His association with Little Golden Books (1949) was a major boost to his career, and in his later years he lived and worked in Gstaad Switzerland with his wife and family.
