June 6, 1904

Lesley Blanch's birth year is listed as either 1904 or 1907, in the secondary sources I have seen. Her birth date though is June 6; she died on May 7, 2007.. Blanch was a writer, and married to the novelist Romain Gary. Her own interest in travel is reflected in her very popular book, The Wilder Shores of Love. This book is a series of biographical essays on women interested in exotic locales, like the middle east. One of her subjects is Jane Digby, a Victorian eccentric, who traveled with a menagerie that included cats. Blanch's biographer, Anne Boston, writes in Lesley Blanch: Inner Landscapes, Wilder Shores (2011) that after Gary left her, she indulged her interest in travel. She loved mystery and secrets her biographer said. The Wilder Shores of Love (1954) was the result.
