March 11, 1980

Gladys Taber (April 12, 1899 to March 11,1980) was a columnist for the Ladies Homes Journal and Family Circle. She graduated from Wellesley and taught creative writing at Columbia in the 1920s. She and her family lived in a Connecticut farmhouse built in 1690, and her home, named Stillmeadow, and gardens figured in her writing. She wrote many books and many were about cats or dogs. Such as:

1949 The First Book of Dogs
1950 The First Book of Cats
1950 Stillmeadow Seasons
1968 Especially Dogs
1969 A Book to Begin on Flower Arranging
1970 Amber, A Very Personal Cat

Her dogs were Irish setters and cocker spaniels. Her cats, Siamese, Abyssinian and Manx.
