October 25, 1881
Pablo Picasso (October 25, 1881 to April 8, 1973), comes to mind if the question is "who is the most famous 20th century artist". That question says something about fame, and nothing about art. My own thoughts on this artist are not insightful, but what always takes me aback is how many cats he painted, and they generally do not show the distortions of Picasso's explorations. Here is a very early painting -- 1900 -- and he was on the brink of major invention.
He senses a need to distance himself, but tenderness is triumphant. Somebody needs to do a book on Picasso and cats.
