The Book, Cat, & Cat Book Lovers Almanac

of historical trivia regarding books, cats, and other animals. Actually this blog has evolved so that it is described better as a blog about cats in history and culture. February 18, 1969

Frances Osborne, born February 18, 1969, is the wife of Britain's Chancellor of the Exchequer. That means for one thing she and her husband George Osborne live next to the Prime Minister's family on London's Downing Street. Frances writes biographies (The Bolter, (2008), is one title), as well as handling her family's checkbook. That family includes two children, and it did, in 2009 include, a gray short-haired tabby cat. In 2009 the cat went missing and could not be found.

In June of 2012 though, the Osborne's cat, Freya, was found and brought to their new home. Now Freya is one of 100,000 cats employed in Britain to catch mice. Freya's beat is just a little posher than most.
