of historical trivia regarding books, cats, and other animals. Actually this blog has evolved so that it is described better as a blog about cats in history and culture. February 13, 1765

James Austen's dates are  February 13,  1765 to December 13th, 1819. He was the oldest child of Rev. George Austen and his wife Cassandra, and would succeed to his father's living. James went to St. John's College, Oxford, where his father had once graduated. James was expected to become a writer. And he did, including two poems about his daughter's cat, which feline is sometimes referred to as the Steventon cat, Steventon being the parish his father held.

It was James' sister Jane, though, that we remember.
