The Book, Cat, & Cat Book Lovers Almanac

of historical trivia regarding books, cats, and other animals. Actually this blog has evolved so that it is described better as a blog about cats in history and culture. And we take as a theme the advice of Aldous Huxley: If you want to be a writer, get some cats. Don't forget to see the archived articles linked at the bottom of the page.

Leonor Fini (August 30, 1907 to  January 18, 1996), an Argentine painter, was herself the subject of major art photography. I mention here, as examples only, Cartier-Bresson and his last wife,  Martine Franck, who memorialized this legendary personality in their own art.

Fini is quoted thusly:

Marriage never appealed to me, I have never lived with one person. Since I was 18, I've always preferred to live in a sort of community - A big house with my atelier and cats and friends, one with a man who was rather a lover and another who was rather a friend. And it has always worked.

This very sensible arrangement is easier if you are a beautiful woman. Pictures of Leonor Fini and her cats too,  at this link:
