Robin Archer Moles, (January 10,1939 to February 28, 2009), was a Manhattan heiress; that Archer is from Archer Daniels Midland, the mega corporation that, among other things, plotted to control the global market t for lysine. When it was found that Moles had left her millions to her caretaker/companion, the family contested the will. Undue influence on an alcoholic, they said.
Late in 2012, there was a settlement the terms of which were not to be disclosed. Though one assumes Elsie McCarthy, the caretaker, from County Cork, is now a millionaire.
McCarthy had worked for Moles, on a $40,000 annual salary, for 20 years. The press reported Elsie's defense: “I'm not shanty Irish. I come from royalty.” About her employer, McCarthy said, “She was very, very smart. I loved her like a mother. I worked 24/7, 12 months of the year. We traveled all over the world together – Ireland, Paris, London, Atlantic City.”
Another thing that made the family suspicious about the will was one of the witnesses to the contested document, Niels Lauersen. Not only did Lauerson witness the contested will, the will was drawn up by Lauersen's own lawyer. Niels Lauersen was once a famous gynecologist on Park Avenue. The "gynecologist to the stars," had patients like Liv Ullman. That was before he spent time in prison for insurance fraud. And Lauerson had cashed checks written by Moles, in her last years, checks which totaled more than $50,000. According to the tabloids, Lauersen explained the money this way:
On his release from jail, he claims to have been employed by Ms Moles to feed her cats and walk the dogs.
