The Book, Cat, & Cat Book Lovers Almanac

of historical trivia regarding books, cats, and other animals. Actually this blog has evolved so that it is described better as a blog about cats in history and culture. And we take as a theme the advice of Aldous Huxley: If you want to be a writer, get some cats. Don't forget to see the archived articles linked at the bottom of the page.

November 25, 1908

Henry Darger was what is called an outsider artist. Everything, really,  about Darger's life said outsider. It was only after the death of this janitor that his landlord realized the treasures his tenant left behind, art cover all the walls etc. Mainly collages.  Worth now a lot of money of course, in many museums. At the time he was too poor to adopt a dog, which was a great disappointment to this quiet man, who, lacking any friends, after his one moved, still kept a connection with the Catholic Church.
November 25, 1908, is the date of an weather event which greatly affected Henry Darger. That is the date a tornado hit  Tampico, Illinois. Darger mentions  this in his autobiography, as he was at the time, out in the weather, having left the home for feeble children, to return to Chicago.  His parents had died, although they were kindly folk. No one had any money.

I hope  you can see the picture below. It is the only Darger cat that I could find.
