November 18, 1785
David Wilkie November 18, 1785 to June 1, 1841), was a Scottish painter who rose quickly to fame on the basis of genre paintings of peasant activities. In 1823 Wilkie was made the Royal Limner of Scotland. In 1836 he received a knighthood from the king of England. His godson, named after him, became the famous novelist, Wilkie Collins. Women were not the best of his portrayals, and I wonder if cats were also not a strong point. This picture, "Cat" a chalk drawing by Sir David Wilkie does convey a certain repose typical of the feline species.
