Margaretha  Zelle  (August 7, 1876 to October 15, 1917) was born in Leeuwarden (Netherlands). After an unhappy marriage, she was faced with supporting herself, and like many many women may have taken money for what should be just shared. Or not shared: like information about enemy combatants. Like many many many, women, her moral antennae were first tuned to hormones. Poor Mata Hari, this really still does not explain why she was shot by a firing squad. "One of her prosecutors later admitted, 'There wasn't enough evidence ...to flog a cat'."
