September 23, 1932

Jules Chéret (May 31, 1836 to  September 23, 1932) was a French painter who is sometimes called the father of the modern poster. The name of Jules Cheret is assoicated with what came to be called the Belle Epoque, an era of peace and optimism. His posters capture a vibrant energy which borders on sexual abandon. His Dubonnet posters are famous and often have a feline theme, as we see below.

Inspired by Madame Dubonnet's pet cats, Chéret was the first to incorporate cats into the brand's advertising, creating an icon that lasts to this day.Reflecting the aesthetic of the 1890s' Belle Epoque, Dubonnet posters are now regarded as collector's items and an art form in themselves. Images of joyous euphoria became synonymous with the brand, conjuring a culture that basks in the glow of good living, sensual enjoyment and extravagant style.

I do hope that lady is not expecting the cat to drink out of the bottle.
