"New Tricks" is a British crime show, gritty realism along with sophisticated humor. The subtle characters sketched and their personal interactions make it superior to any crime shows on American television. For that matter there are no portrayals of complex older characters comparable to the quality of certain British shows. (At least on broadcast telly. I don't keep up with cable.) This show debuted on March 27, 2003. The episode that interests us, however, first aired on April 30, 2007. That episode is titled: Nine Lives. Synopsis: "When an elderly lady's body is discovered, part consumed by her hordes of cats, the death is dismissed as a tragic accident." This turns out not to be the case. In this episode, we discover -- nobody on the team of retired detectives is a cat lover.
