July 1, 1904
The St. Louis World Fair, combining with an Olympics game, began on July 1, 1904. This was the fair that gave a boost to Chinese rugs apparently. After one won a prize at the fair, the old prejudice in favor of Persian rugs, rather than Chinese, was modified. Apparently a great variety of fiber was used in Chinese rugs from the early 20th century: including dog and cat fur.
