June 2, 1840

Thomas Hardy was born on June 2, in 1840. He is not famous as a cat lover, but he was one, in fact wrote much better poetry about cats than the following is:

...
The steps are a blanched slope
Up which with feeble hope
A black cat comes, wide-eyed and thin;
And we take him in.

The above is from his poem, 'Snow in the Suburbs.'
