The Book, Cat, & Cat Book Lovers Almanac
of historical trivia regarding books, cats, and other animals. Actually this blog has evolved so that it is described better as a blog about cats in history and culture. April 19, 1689
Queen Christina of Sweden died on April 19, 1689. We won't go into her rather strange life here, but merely note that she owned a painting which contained a cat, an unusual painting, by Giovanni Lanfranco (1582-1647). Lanfranco's canvas portrays a young man half reclining, with his arm touching a cat. It's starkness makes it seem quite modern. The cat looks like an ordinary black and white kitty.
