April 17, 1898

Ludwig Bemelmans, writer of the Madeleine series of children's books, was very fond of daschunds. It was his grandson who continued the children's books, and recently published "Madeleine and the Cats of Rome." The originator of the Madeleine stories was born on April 17, 1898.
