The cartoonist Charles Addams (January 7, 1912 to September 29, 1988) created a fictional family of confident misfits and used them often. After this "Addams family" became famous, people sent the artist ideas to use. Addams...

once cheerfully told James Thurber, his fellow New Yorker cartoonist, ”I have gotten a lot of letters about my work, most of them from criminals and subhumans who want to sell ideas. Some of the worst come from a minister in Georgia.”

The Addams family ghouls did not have ordinary cats as pets. Their pets were more likely a crocodile or something similarly unexpected. Here though, is a cat Addams drew:

Sadly most people think of that dreadful television show when they think of Charles Addams. He deserves better.
