October 5, 1969

Chantal Joffe's birthday is October 5, 1969. In 2006 Chantal Joffe won the prestigious Charles Wollaston Award from the Royal Academy. Below is a thumbnail of a self portrait.

The cat is the same kitty in both.

Joffe was born in the USA though she was educated in Britain and is based now in London. She comes from a family of artists, and I am very pleased to have come across her work. Of course I have lost its real effect  which is typically on canvases that exceed the human scale.

Britain's National Portrait Gallery has a show featuring the work of Joffe with that of her friend and collaborator Ishbel Myerscough. Here is a link to a cyber bibliography about Joffe.
