August 24, 1948

Alexander McCall Smith, CBE, FRSE, (August 24, 1948) is the creator of the Isabel Dalhousie series, featuring said fictional detective, and set in Edinburgh, his own home.

Nothing fictional about his cat, as these photos prove. The blogger where I got this assumes the feline is that cat McCall named Augustus Basil.

I say clever since Augustus here is obviously trying not to do the traditional feline disembarkation, which involves digging their hind claws into the supporting person, to steady their launch.
