April 29, 1945

Ezra Pound (October 30, 1885 to November 1, 1972) herald of modernism, shared with his friend T. S. Eliot, a love of cats. Pound fed stray cats, and had them. Pound did not often mention cats in his poetry. On April 29, 1945, the German Army in Italy surrendered to the Americans. Ezra Pound, who broadcast against Jews, and the Allied forces, during the war, was handed over, by Italian partisans, on April 29, 1945, to the American army. Eliot would, over the following years, work to ameliorate Pound's situation, and ultimately free him from confinement.
