Joseph Caraud (January 5, 1821 to 1905) painted "Feline Affection," in 1872.

His fame and success began much earlier. He was a success partly because he rejected the contemporary trend for a naturalistic ethos, in favor of the style popular under Louis XV, Watteau's for instance. There are many more examples here, and that means many paintings with cats.
