The Book, Cat, & Cat Book Lovers Almanac

of historical trivia regarding books, cats, and other animals. Actually this blog has evolved so that it is described better as a blog about cats in history and culture. And we take as a theme the advice of Aldous Huxley: If you want to be a writer, get some cats. Don't forget to see the archived articles linked at the bottom of the page.

October 30, 1885

Ezra Pound (October 30, 1885 to November 1, 1972) is still remembered as a major 20th century writer. And those knowledgeable about his life recall he was a cat person.

His best writing is superior to this poem we quote:

'It rests me to be among beautiful women
Why should one always lie about such matters?
I repeat:
It rests me to converse with beautiful women
Even though we talk nothing but nonsense,

The purring of the invisible antennae
Is both stimulating and delightful.'

I am not sure this poem is worth much, but for our purposes we recall the title of this verse: "Tame Cat."
