of historical trivia regarding books, cats, and other animals. Actually this blog has evolved so that it is described better as a blog about cats in history and culture. October 24, 1932

Examples of the art of Rafael Coronel (October 24, 1932 )can be found at artnet.com.

Biographical details on this artist can be contradictory. This summary is helpful, if not completely accurate.

What was once, in the 16th century,  the convent of San Francisco De Almoloyan y De Asis , in Zacatecas, there is now a museum named after Coronel.

A..."visit [there] starts at the old church. The remains of the convent form a surreal labyrinth of gardens, dotted with some of Coronel’s sculptures. Weaving through these magical ruins feels like traveling through one of his paintings. Eventually you reach the main building, where the incredible mask collection is found."

We have a picture of some of the masks collected in this museum; there many masks of felines on the walls. Click the link, they are quite lovely.
