The Book, Cat, & Cat Book Lovers Almanac

of historical trivia regarding books, cats, and other animals. Actually this blog has evolved so that it is described better as a blog about cats in history and culture. And we take as a theme the advice of Aldous Huxley: If you want to be a writer, get some cats. Don't forget to see the archived articles linked at the bottom of the page.

October 2, 1914

Jack Parsons (October 2, 1914 to June 17, 1952) is a nice example of what intelligence without talent can produce. He was involved with jet design, and part of the group that became JPL in 1943. He did not last long though, at JPL, because of the reputation of his activities inspired by Aleister Crowley. His end was early and desultory. What one might expect from a logic which "argued", in his words, and as an example,--

'There is no known force that can turn an apple into an alley cat; there is no known force that can turn a man from his Will.'

The clauses above have no cognitive force, except what juxtapostion might allow. Garbage from a particularly 20th century sewer.
