Kees van Dongen, (January 26, 1877 to May 28,1968)) was a Fauvist painter in the 20th century, in the Paris of Picasso. He often painted women, and also women with cats. Van Dongen was a native of Rotterdam, and became especially popular with a French audience after the war ended. He was awarded the French Legion of Honour in 1926, and in 1927,the Order of the Crown of Belgium.
According to the website The Great Cat, Kees von Dongen lived in Monaco after 1959. This site has multiple lovely reproductions of the art of von Dongen. I draw attention to one titled "The Reader," but they are all quite enchanting.
