of historical trivia regarding books, cats, and other animals. Actually this blog has evolved so that it is described better as a blog about cats in history and culture. We cite a long biographical essay about Margaret Fuller (May 23, 1810 to July 19, 1850) and I suggest whether you are familiar with this literary figure or not, you pursue the topic. For our purposes we learn of one incident involving the probably illegitimate child that Fuller had with a destitute Italian nobleman:

'Margaret revelled in her child, bathing, dressing, playing with him constantly, writing long letters to her friends about his graces. “Christmas day I was just up, and Nino all naked on his sofa, when came some beautiful large toys: a bird, a horse, a cat. … It almost made me cry to see the kind of fearful rapture with which he regarded them.”'

There is a sense in which Margaret Fuller was not only original in her time, but remains a unique aspect of our American cultural heritage.
