The Book, Cat, & Cat Book Lovers Almanac

of historical trivia regarding books, cats, and other animals. Actually this blog has evolved so that it is described better as a blog about cats in history and culture. And we take as a theme the advice of Aldous Huxley: If you want to be a writer, get some cats. Don't forget to see the archived articles linked at the bottom of the page.

Adel Abdessemed (March 2, 1971) artist, was born in Constantine, Algeria. This conceptual creator
has to his credits a  2005 video installation titled "Happiness in Mitte," about which, we learn

'It depicts a number of cats drinking, one by one, from bowls of milk that the artist has left in an outdoor location, somewhere in Berlin. The cats look like strays, thin, tentative, anxious in their approaches, always watching out for danger as they enjoy their meals. They leave quickly when their hunger is satisfied.
'Its subject matter is extremely simple and yet this work could not be more compelling. A dramatic tension arises out of a fine balance struck between the fulfilment of desire and insecurity, and in this respect it illustrates Abdessemed’s essential humanism.'

Not sure I agree with the summary, but here is a thumbnail frame from Abdessemed's "Happiness in Mitte
