The Book, Cat, & Cat Book Lovers Almanac

of historical trivia regarding books, cats, and other animals. Actually this blog has evolved so that it is described better as a blog about cats in history and culture. February 22, 1925

We are reminded of the artist Edward Gorey (February 22, 1925) and his relation to the New York Review: he was '... a college classmate of The New York Review’s founding editor Barbara Epstein, contributed many illustrations to the magazine over the years, including festive cover drawings for its anniversary issues.'

That periodical lists multiple products relating to Gorey, like notecards featuring neglected murderesses. All clever enough to be worthy of their inspiration.

'The inimitable Edward Gorey authored more than one hundred illustrated works, often darkly humorous tales full of enigma and intrigue. He was also a bibliophile and ardent lover of cats, two passions reflected in this [puzzle] illustration. 100 pieces packaged in a tin with hinged lid.'

A hinged lid! If I bought stuff, this would tempt me. I don't, and hope my readers don't either. The picture is enough.
