of historical trivia regarding books, cats, and other animals. Actually this blog has evolved so that it is described better as a blog about cats in history and culture. In Revolutionaries of the Soul: Reflections on Magicians, Philosophers, and Occultists(2014) Gary Lachman (December 24, 1955), prolific writer on interesting topics,
includes paragraphs on Dion Fortune (1890 -1946).

She was a one time participant in theosophy circles. She wrote several books like The Esoteric Philosophy of Love and Marriage (1924), Sane Occultism (1929). These aroused controversy and Fortune describes a psychic revenge levied against her, in her book, Psychic Self Defense (1930), and which Lachman quoted. Fortune and her neighbors (near the headquarters for her "Fraternity of Light,")

'...were overrun by mobs of black cats. The place was filled with “the horrible stench of the brutes,” and at their day-job offices, members of the group found “the same penetrating reek of the tomcat.” Astral cats appeared, too, and one morning after breakfast Fortune was confronted by “a giant tabby . . . twice the size of a tiger.” The invasion ended after Fortune performed an exorcism, but she was soon grappling with her enemy anew ...'

Lachman is the author of many books wherein he deals with
spiritual esoterica, sundry and/or so-called.
