The Book, Cat, & Cat Book Lovers Almanac

of historical trivia regarding books, cats, and other animals. Actually this blog has evolved so that it is described better as a blog about cats in history and culture. And we take as a theme the advice of Aldous Huxley: If you want to be a writer, get some cats. Don't forget to see the archived articles linked at the bottom of the page.

Gerald Laing (February 11, 1936 to November 23, 2011)was a pop artist in the nineteen sixties, and is now labeled one of Britain's greatest sculptors. The much married artist gained early fame. One of his sculptures is simply labeled "Cat."

This may be his only sculpture of a feline; it is dated April 1982. There are 10 copies of this smallish bronze work, which measures 13x8x7 inches. Laing had a castle in the Highlands restored and built a foundry there, presumably the source of this work.

His website is uncommonly complete and commonly cluttered, to the point of hindering access to information. The timeline there though, presents a quick introduction to the work of this impressive artist.
