August 22, 1806

Jean-Honoré Fragonard (April 5, 1732 to 22 August 22, 1806) painted scenes of a decadent aristocracy. Pictures like this show the influence of his teacher Francois Boucher. The cat is an Angora, which was very popular at the royal court, (although Marie-Antoinette was not a fan of felines.)






The French Revolution ended the career of Fragonard. His aristocratic patrons were exiled, or  guillotined. He moved away from Paris in 1790, and never regained his glamorous status.
