For World Book Day we are celebrating with a page from a bestiary, dated to around 1200 in England.

"creation of the animals". The Bestiary, is currently at Aberdeen University Library, MS 24, fol. 2v.

Notice the cat is singularly unimpressed. So feline character was created simultaneously with the furry body.
