Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency (1987) famously begins with a hero who's job includes finding missing cats. Douglas Adams (March 11, 1952 to May 11, 2001) paints this amusing scenario for Dirk Gently, who, as we learn, is capable of saving the universe by time-traveling.  So his last cat case is solved with no effort, since, the cat not ever getting lost, is just one of the tiny, unpredictable details, that result from his tinkery time-travel.  This is not surprising when we recall a fundamental assumption of the Holistic Detective Agency: everything is connected.
