Guillaume Apollinaire (August 26 1880 to November 9, 1918), plausibly called a French artist, emerged in the center of various modernist movements. He is said to have coined the term "surrealism." And he shared an entrancement with modern technology. He said, in "The New Spirit and the Poets" (1917):

One can foresee the day when the phonograph and the cinema will be the only recording techniques in use, and poets may revel in a liberty hitherto unknown.

But in the days before Youtube, he used a pen. He wrote a bestiary which included the cat:

Je souhaite dans ma maison :
Une femme ayant sa raison,
Un chat passant parmi les livres,
Des amis en toute saison
Sans lesquels je ne peux pas vivre.

Which is to say,

"My home must include a reasonable woman, a cat in the library, and friends from today and from yesterday. That is where I can live. "
