The Book, Cat, & Cat Book Lovers Almanac

of historical trivia regarding books, cats, and other animals. Actually this blog has evolved so that it is described better as a blog about cats in history and culture. June 19, 1896

It is hard enough being the last intellectual willing to consider justifications for an aristocratic class of people, those whose argument for their wealth and privilege is their genetic makeup. The example of the Duke of Windsor and the Duchess of Windsor (June 19, 1896 to April 24, 1986) makes it almost utterly, just about, but not completely, impossible.

On the cheery side, though, we have jewelry. In 1948 an order from the Duke of Windsor for his wife encourages Cartier to develop a three-dimensional panther motif for the very first time: the brooch features a golden cat with black enamel spots crouching on an emerald cabochon. This I read someplace.
