April 11, 1977

Jacques PrĂ©vert (February 4, 1900 to April 11, 1977) was a French poet He wrote much of the screen play for Les Enfants du Paradis (1945) and many other films. Prevert was known as a cat lover.  Here is a translation of "Le Chat et L'oiseau:"


A village listens in sorrow
The song of a wounded bird
This is the only bird in the village
And that's the only cat in the village
Who has half eaten it.
