The Book, Cat, & Cat Book Lovers Almanac

of historical trivia regarding books, cats, and other animals. Actually this blog has evolved so that it is described better as a blog about cats in history and culture. And we take as a theme the advice of Aldous Huxley: If you want to be a writer, get some cats. Don't forget to see the archived articles linked at the bottom of the page.

Alice Norton, (February 17, 1912 to March 17, 2005) is well known within science/fantasy circles. She used several pseudonyms, like Andre Norton, and became a successful writer (becoming a Gandalf Grand Master of Fantasy, a SFWA Grand Master, and being inducted into the Science Fiction and Fantasy Hall of Fame.) She was a librarian until her success allowed her to quit and spend her time writing.

Norton was a cat lover and besides having them in her home, she worked them into her stories. We see this in these titles:

Catseye (1961)
The Gate of the Cat (1987)
The Mark of the Cat (1992)
Tiger Burning Bright (1995),

There is a free copy of her short story, "All Cats Are Gray," here. "All Cats Are Gray," first published in
Fantastic Universe, Aug./Sep. 1953- is considered a classic.
