The Book, Cat, & Cat Book Lovers Almanac

of historical trivia regarding books, cats, and other animals. Actually this blog has evolved so that it is described better as a blog about cats in history and culture. Jazz great Charlie Mingus (April 22, 1922 to January 5, 1979) is less well known as a cat lover than as one of the legends of 20th century music. But it is so. He even published a manual on toilet training a cat.

We read that he recommended starting out with newspaper, not litter, to begin the training. Then slowly and patiently transfer the box to the toilet. “The main thing to remember is not to rush or confuse” your cat.  This publication happened after he included "Pussy Cat Dues" on a 1959 album.
