of historical trivia regarding books, cats, and other animals. Actually this blog has evolved so that it is described better as a blog about cats in history and culture. Kara Walker (November 26, 1969) is an American artist and recently her first sculpture has received a lot of press. The massive sculpted sphinx is titled:

A Subtlety, or the Marvelous Sugar Baby, an Homage to the unpaid and overworked Artisans who have refined our Sweet tastes from the cane fields to the Kitchens of the New World on the Occasion of the demolition of the Domino Sugar Refining Plan.

It took 80 tons of sugar to construct, and is 35 feet tall. Here is one of the preparatory sketches.

Just use Google Images to find photographs of Kara Walker Sphinx. It's great.
