September 29, 1758

Horatio Nelson ( (29 September 1758 – 21 October 1805) is a military hero due to his service in the navy during, among others, the Napoleonic Wars. He had earlier lost an arm and an eye, in battle, and lost his life at the Battle of Trafalgar.
A world famous monument is Nelson's Column in Trafalgar Square. The base contains 4 huge bronze lions, made from melted down cannon, The column with Nelson's statue at the top, rises to 170 feet. The lions were the final addition, and in place in 1867.
