The Book, Cat, & Cat Book Lovers Almanac

of historical trivia regarding books, cats, and other animals. Actually this blog has evolved so that it is described better as a blog about cats in history and culture. August 8, 2014

Well Slinky Malinki did not win, although he was a finalist. The over-all winner was "Nelson', announced at the Savoy evwnt and here is a picture of Nelson, whom I pray was not expected to make a personal appearance at the event.  You can see the winners at this Telegraph photo gallery.

Nelson, owned by Andrea Huntley-Crow, of Seaham, County Durham, has been selected as the overall National Cat of the Year by a panel of past celebrity judges. He also won the Most Incredible Story category as well.

Bottomline on these moggies: the most common reason given for a cat to win was, they gave their owners a purpose to live. That is a bit odd. Not that the day after the dinner, August 8, 2014, the contest was a headline.
