The Book, Cat, & Cat Book Lovers Almanac

of historical trivia regarding books, cats, and other animals. Actually this blog has evolved so that it is described better as a blog about cats in history and culture. And we take as a theme the advice of Aldous Huxley: If you want to be a writer, get some cats. Don't forget to see the archived articles linked at the bottom of the page.

Christies (London) is auctioning off Valerie Eliot's art collection, November 20, 2013. This link might work to see the items included. Otherwise, could go to and search for "A LIFE'S DEVOTION: THE COLLECTION OF THE LATE MRS T.S. ELIOT. "
I assume like me your interest is in the kind of art, the wife of T. S. Eliot collected. Her whole means to pursue this interesting and unlikely pursuit, collecting art, came from the rights she sold to Andrew Lloyd Webber so he could produce the musical Cats, based on her husband's book of poetry about cats. This is the cover of the catalog, which is free to download.

Notice the cat figurines on the cover. I don't think they are part of the auction.
