August 3, 1954

Colette (January 28, 1873 to August 3, 1954) was a French novelist, and perhaps only the French could have so adored the fusion of sensuality, younger men, and artistic excellence evidenced in her stories.  The power of her writing can be seen in this quote:

The cat is the animal to whom the creator gave the biggest eye, the softest fur, the most supremely delicate nostrils, a mobile ear, and a curved claw borrowed from a rose tree.
