The Book, Cat, & Cat Book Lovers Almanac
of historical trivia regarding books, cats, and other animals. Actually this blog has evolved so that it is described better as a blog about cats in history and culture. And we take as a theme the advice of Aldous Huxley: If you want to be a writer, get some cats. Don't forget to see the archived articles linked at the bottom of the page.

Elmer Kelton (April 29, 1926 to August 22, 2009) was born in west Texas, desert country, where his father worked his entire life on a ranch. In his memoirs Sandhills Boy: The Winding Trail of a Texas Writer (2007), he talks about the compelling beauty of a geography most hurry to escape, a corridor Comanche raiders once traveled. Besides a regular production of novels with a western theme, Kelton edited Livestock Weekly, for over 20 years. One of his novels was made into a movie with Tommy Lee Jones in it. His memoirs don't mention cats, but the novels mention some, like barn cats, and stray cats children throw rocks at. Sounds realistic. Kelton's own life sounds American to the core, and he sounds a gentleman.
