Apr. 25, 1939

Ted Kooser won the Pulitzer for poetry in 2005, for I assume Delights and Shadows (2004). In this book we find a feline delineation:

and the gray cat sat for a squirt
of thick milk in its whiskers...

Kooser, like Wallace Stevens, worked decades in the insurance industry.  He was poet laureate of the United States.  Ted Kooser was born in Ames, Iowa on April 25, 1939.  Like so many American geniuses then, he is from the heartland of the country.  Unlike most, he stayed there.
