The Book, Cat, & Cat Book Lovers Almanac

of historical trivia regarding books, cats, and other animals. Actually this blog has evolved so that it is described better as a blog about cats in history and culture. And we take as a theme the advice of Aldous Huxley: If you want to be a writer, get some cats. Don't forget to see the archived articles linked at the bottom of the page.

March 27, 2009

Yevgeniy M. Samsonov, was 29, and a Tacoma resident, when his car was rear-ended at a stop light. The damage to the vehicles was minor but Samsonov received over $3000 to compensate him for chiropractic care. The accident occurred on March 27, 2009.

Two years later this guy decided to claim that he had a pet cat with him in the car at the time of the accident and that the cat had died as a result of the accident. He claimed $20,000 was due him for the loss of his precious pet.

He was quickly charged himself with fraud by the insurance company. He had used a photo off of wikipedia to document his claim, the first picture that came up if you search for 'white cat.' Of course he was convicted of fraud. No defense claiming his real injury was brain damage has come to my attention.
